Kindergarten Classroom Information

About our Program...

We have a half day option and a full day option for our Kindergarten classroom. Half day Kindergartners will be learning from 8:30am-12:00pm. If your Kinder still needs to take a nap, this may be the best option for you, as our Kindergarten class will not provide nap opportunities. If you would like your child to stay all day, that is an option as well. Our classroom is prepared for ages 5 year-6 year. Your child should be 5 by the start of the School calendar year (September) if you have a child who is born in October or November, please talk to the adminstration and the kindergarten teacher to decide if your child is ready to start kindergarten, or should wait another year.

No requirements are necessary for joining the Kindergarten class, however we strongly recommend that the child is confident in using the toilet. In Kindergarten, it will be common for children to have accidents, so please be prepared to send backup clothes. We will continue to work with your child wherever they are at.

Our philosophy…

The Montessori method is not a course of study but a way of respecting the individualized development needs of children. Becoming a part of a Montessori classroom is more than just learning to present lessons and use the materials. It is a life changing transformation. Montessori is more than a methodology - it is a way of life.

Our Montessori environment is designed to be calm and orderly, which encourages concentration and focus. We respect the autonomy and individuality of each child. We aim to foster a positive, supportive atmosphere where children feel safe to explore, make mistakes, and succeed. Our classrooms are equipped with materials that are designed to be tactile and concrete, allowing children to explore abstract concepts through physical manipulation. The space is carefully organized and thoughtfully arranged to allow children to move freely, explore, and engage in activities. The materials are often low shelves and are accessible to children, allowing them to choose activities based on their interests.

Enlightened Journey Montessori believes in meeting your child where are they at. We encourage children to move forward with their best ability to be successful. We respect the individuality and individual needs but also guide the child towards appropriate learning.

Our curriculum...

One of the most important underlying principles of our Kindergarten program is cosmic education. Our approach to education involves helping develop an awareness in each child that everything in the universe is connected and interdependent, while helping to grow their independent awareness that they are a part of, and can contribute positively to our universe. Children of this age get inquisitive about their surroundings. Our Montessori program is specifically designed to deliver education to the “How?”; and “Why” through our cosmic curriculum.

Our Kindergarten program focuses on deepening the child’s understanding of the why behind math operations. By manipulating materials, children are not just learning to perform operations, they are understanding the underlying concepts like place value, the properties of numbers, and the relationships between different mathematical ideas. Our math curriculum is designed to be sequential, with children moving from concrete experiences to more abstract concepts as they master each level.

We believe that the emphasis of a Kindergarten environment is to immerse children in a rich curriculum of language. There are books, writing materials, and opportunities for verbal interaction everywhere. Children are encouraged to listen, speak, read, and write throughout the day, in a way that feels natural and meaningful. Montessori believes that sensory experiences help with language development. Many sensorial materials have a language component, helping children connect sensory experiences to words and concepts. Through stories, songs, and
lessons about geography, history, and science, children learn new vocabulary that helps them understand the world and communicate about it. Children are encouraged to write stories, letters, or even labels for their own drawings or work. Montessori is not just about copying letters or sentences—it’s about self-expression.

Practical Life activities are foundational in a Montessori classroom because they help children develop both the cognitive and social-emotional skills necessary for learning. These tasks help children develop independence, self-discipline, concentration, and an
appreciation for order. Additionally, these skills are essential for children’s academic success as they lay the groundwork for problem-solving, fine motor coordination, and the ability to care for themselves and others. By engaging in Practical Life activities, children not only gain practical skills for daily living but also develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and confidence, all of which are key to becoming capable, compassionate, and self-sufficient individuals.

Enlightened Journey Montessori team love to share the journey of learning with the parents. We post pictures and updates about your child’s learning through Transparent Classroom. Parents will be notified when the teacher is introducing a new topic or what your child is practicing so you can be a part of this wonderful journey.
